Local Government from 1st April 2027

West Surrey Council

The former Surrey County Council and all the borough councils within its area (including Surrey Heath Borough Council) are dissolved and replaced by two new unitary authorities, West Surrey Council and East Surrey Council.

Part of the area covered by West Surrey was once in Mikddlesex County which was abolished in 1965 (most being integrated with Greater London). There is a campaign to incorporate 'Middlesex' into West Surrey's name.

Councillors elected in May 2026 to West Surrey will carry out shadow roles until the chage-over.

Bagshot and Lightwater Parish Council

Windlesham residents voted to separate themselves from Bagshot and Lightwater. This is independant of the national county changes and may happen on a different date. The names of the new parish councils have not been determined.

In anticipation that West Surrey may have less interest in the villages than the borough councils, consideration is being given to transferring some assets to parishes.
