Church Building

St Anne's Church is about 120 years old, built in the hey-day of Victorian church building to a neo-gothic style. Bagshot had separated from Windlesham village to become its own ecclesiastical parish in 1874 and the Church was built ten years later, largely with the patronage of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, who lived near-by in Bagshot Park.

The attractive building is red brick with stone detail under a slate roof. There is a bell tower with a peal of 8 bells. It is grade II listed and situated in a conservation area.

Parish Hall

The Parish Hall was built in 1925 and is about 300 yards from the Church, nearer the centre of Bagshot. It is used by many village organisations and is available for hire.for private and commercial functions.  It is a true 'parish hall' as opposed to an exclusively Church Hall.

A new Church Centre was built behind the church in 2005/6 and formally opened by the Bishop of Guildford in June 2006.

The building has been designed to reflect the style of the church construction and its facilities are fully accessable. It is joined to the main church by a glazed lobby.

Church Services

Our worship is 'middle of the road' Anglican, and we have a balanced mixture of services that will suit all tastes at some time during the month.

Sunday worship pattern

C of E first Sunday in the month third Sunday in the month all other Sundays
8 am communion
('prayer book' version)
communion communion
10 am Family Service
(term time only)
morning prayer
('prayer book' version
also known as Mattins)
Parish Communion (sung)
6 pm communion evening prayer evening prayer

Except where noted, a modern version of the communion service is used.
Those attending communion who are not confirmed are invited to join the others at the altar rail and receive a blessing.

Sunday School

St Anne's has a Sunday School, and a Sunday Club, catering for children of various ages which meet term time on those Sundays when there is not a Family Service in Church.

Weekday

A communion service is held on Wednesday mornings at 10 am.

Weddings, baptisms and funerals are held as required.  Please contact the office with enquiries.

The normal pattern of services will be varied for the major festivals.

St Anne

No one knows why our church has St Anne as its Patron Saint.  The village had a chapel dedicated to St Anne before the present church was built, and it is assumed that the name was carried over to the new building on its new site.

St Anne was Jesus' maternal grandmother, she is not mentioned in the bible! You can read more about St Anne on the web site of St. Anne, Stanley, Liverpool

Parish Organisations and Events

A youth group meets on Friday evenings during term time (contact the Church Office for details).

The "Contact Group" meets about every 6 weeks for a social lunch.

We also have a Ladies Group and a Men's Group, both of which meet occasionally with a varied social programme.

Parish events include harvest supper, a St Anne's day event of some form, guest choir concerts, and a garden party.

A particular feature of the church's programme is a "wedding preparation day", usually held in May. All those planning to get married at St Anne's during the year are invited, and the workshops and speakers help the couples to think through the many issues that they will encounter in their future life together.

Church Wardens

St Anne's has a policy that Church Wardens serve for four years, prior to which they serve as assistant warden (or warden-in-training) for two years. Prospective wardens find this a very satisfactory arrangement as it means they are taking on a bounded commitment. It also means that thare are many past wardens who can be called upon should the need arise!

Links

Guildford Diocese, of which Bagshot is a part, has encouraged links with Sheffield Diocese and Bagshot is 'linked' with Wath upon Dearne.

As well as St Anne's (Church of England), there are also Roman Catholic (Christ the King), Methodist and Evangelical (The Brook Church) churches in Bagshot.

In addition to the web links included in-text, further web links are offered.
